Alfie is a "Pompey" girl. She started playing cornet at the age of 9 at St Albans school in Havant. She studied and achieved her music degree at Chichester University. Her early banding days were with Solent Concert under the direction of Wes Garner (her step-father), where she first experienced qualifying and playing at the Albert Hall in London (8 more banding visits over the years have been highlights). She moved to Chichester City Band where she stayed for 22 years both as Solo Horn and Principal cornet. Alfie joined BCB on Solo Horn in 2009 and moved to the Principal Cornet seat shortly after.
She has two children and is also a qualified foster parent and brass teacher.
